Hi! Thanks for stopping by. We're Lisa and Francis, the hands and hearts behind Wild Wood Collective.
We once owned a heritage home that needed an extreme restoration project to bring the 120 year old building back to life. Along the way, we found some treasures from the persons who lived their lives in within those walls. In an unfinished, 5'10" crawl space, was the remnants of an old woodworker's shop. Amongst the rubble in this space was 70's (and earlier) vintage equipment, old pinned scroll saw blades, vintage hammers and letters and words that had been crafted by the artisan who worked in this shop.
Within the neighbourhood, we began to notice the handiwork of this gentleman. House numbers and signs made in his style out of scroll sawed wood, mounted on planks of wood. Some were painted and some were raw wood.
Francis has been doing finish carpentry for the better part of 2 decades and I jokingly told him that he would be the next woodworker to build in this crawl space. (Keep in mind, he is nearly 6 feet tall and cannot stand up completely, unless he stands in between the beams) His words... No. :|
But we were inspired by the work we saw in our neighborhood. I said, we could bring this art back. Modern flair added to this 70's style. We went ahead and purchased a commercial grade scroll saw and started creating. Much to his chagrin, Francis did start working in this crawl space where he could only stand between the beams. :)
These were our humble beginnings years ago, and now Francis and I both committed full time crafting our signage with the help of some snazzy tools and equipment. We work with businesses and individuals creating custom pieces. I take care of the design work and all finishing details while Francis works in the shop. (Happily, no longer in a crawl space) ;)
